Leisure

BikingI read somewhere that you can only concentrate on three things at a time, or you can only be really good at three things in your lifetime, or something like that. I don't know how true that is. If it is, then the top three things on my leisure activities are: Biking, Shooting, and Swimming. I wish I could say Racing but I have very little experience in it. This is not to say I am really good at any of the above. I'm never going to turn pro in any sport. Some people have that innate talent. They are born with it. I wasn't. So I try, but know that I will never get to that level of competence even if I did it everyday.

The top three things that interest me are Music, Movies/TV, and Cars. I used to read a lot, but Reading is no longer up there. I read about these subjects, but I couldn't find time for reading for pure entertainment. It's a sad plight. With work, and then family taking up most of my time, I couldn't sneak in a good read. I have to sleep at some point during the day. I did read a lot before. Two novels a week in high school, then one a week at university, until I discovered movies. It became once a month, then when I started working, it was once a year, and then I stopped all together. It's sad really. I enjoy reading. But it's one of those things I had to give up. I do have a favorite: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas.

I love music. It is my passion. There's always a song in my head. I can play some instruments. I suppose this is the one thing that if I practiced everyday, I'd be really good at it. Alas, so much to learn, so little time. I do have a relatively huge selection of music. I've finally ripped all my CDs and began buying individual MP3s. I can't say I have a favorite genre. The top artists, the ones with the most top rated songs, include Aerosmith, Ella Fitzgerald, Queen, Swing Out Sister, Gary Valenciano, and Frank Sinatra.

I love watching movies. Even more than reading. I watch something and I check out the information on IMDB.com. I have a huge Netflix queue, but I think they're making too much money off me because I couldn't go through it as fast as I should, again because I simply can't find the time. I long for a time when streaming Netflix to my TV would not require extra equipment. My favorite movies are Casablanca and The Rock, but from my Netflix ratings my top genre is Romantic Comedies. And then there's TV. But I only have time for CSI and its two other variants, CSI: Miami and CSI: NY. I don't want to get hooked on another TV show or I would never finish. I'm still going through The Simpsons seasons I have missed, and MacGyver. It's that bad.

CarsI love cars, but I don't know how to fix them. I can change the oil and oil filter, maybe replace an air filter, and some other simple replacement tasks. Anything more serious I have to bring to a mechanic. My dream car has always been a Porsche 911.

And then there's everything else: personal safety, politics, religion, and whatever else that may pique my interest. I don't actually own a lot of tech gadgets. I don't even have an iPod. But if something captures my imagination I like to write about it. I am an advocate of personal safety. I would like to promote safe practices and safety equipment. I try to stay away from politics and religion but if there is something that wakes my passion I will write about it.

Posts on this site and my blog relating to leisure will revolve around any subject above, and they will be tagged with such. Enjoy!
