Dabbling in Photography

Photography is a distant second to my passion for music. I am not that creative. I try to learn the basics of light, aperture, shutter speed, and composition. My photos are more of a hit or miss. That's why I use large capacity storage. So I can take a lot of pictures with different settings, and choose the better ones later.

I used to have a fully manual SLR but somebody stole it. I'd like to get a nice digital SLR, but because of other expenses and a limited cash flow, it's not top priority. Ken Rockwell said in his site, it's not so much the equipment. I use a Canon Powershot A70, and lately a Powershot A520.

Somewhere in here I need to mention Kameraderie.com, a community of photographers created by the same people who brought us Tsikot.com. It's a fairly new forum, but it is turning out to have the same type of crowd as Tsikot.com, friendly and helpful. There are a lot of seasoned photographers as well as newbies like me, so it's not intimidating.

Here are a few of the better ones at Webshots.com and at Kameraderie.com. I know that there are a lot of post-processing software like Lightroom and Photoshop to fix not-so-good photographs. I'd like to think I could get good photos without those, then make them better with such applications.
